New Provincial Guidelines Temporarily Suspend All Adult Programming at SLNC

By order and direction of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) and Viasport BC there have been further updates on December 2nd and 3rd to the restrictions announced in the written Order from November 19th, which is accessible here.

Also CCBC, our sport governing body has sent us the following guidelines following these latest PHO decisions. It can be found here:  http://www.crosscountrybc.ca/return-sport-plan-%E2%80%93-cross-country-bc

The term “team sports” applies to all social and performance adult activities within an organization as determined by Viasport and CCBC. This new mandate requires the temporary suspension of all Masters XC, Masters HP, and U35 Programming taking place at Sovereign Lake Nordic Club. The duration of this new order is undetermined at this time.

The Ministry of Health reminds us that the intention of the restrictions is to minimize the number of people we interact with and reduce travel in order to significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission. As you know, travel and interactions are a key part of the sport experience, however, during this very critical time in this global pandemic, it is important all travel and interaction, including those for sport, be put on pause.

Specifically, the latest updates include:

All indoor and outdoor team sports for people 19 years of age and older are suspended. The website lists a number of sports as examples, it is important to note that this is not an exhaustive list. All team sports must follow these restrictions.

Troy Hudson

All Trail Access CLOSED Until Further Notice

SKIING ADVISORY: We are putting out a request to all skiers to stay off all of our trails until further notice to help us preserve the limited amount of remaining snow we have at the moment. Two days of rain has reduced our snowpack significantly and there is between 3-5″ of packed snow AT MOST on the trails. We hope to see cold weather and more snow by the weekend. We need every 1″ of this white stuff to be able to open next weekend, on November 6th. Skiing access is still available on Repeater Rd at this time.

Thanks, Troy Hudson (GM)

Attention all current and aspiring coaches!

COVID-19 has changed the landscape of all we do. However, at Sovereign Lake Nordic, we are making plans to proceed with all of our youth programming with necessary changes to keep our athletes, coaches, and our community safe!

One such strategy is to increase the number of coaches in our Skill Development Programs so we can keep our sub-groups small enough to enable appropriate facilitation.

If you are keen on becoming a coach and part of an awesome team look no further.
Sovereign Lake Nordic will cover the costs associated with your coaching education including seasonal clinics which in turn improve and help your own skiing. Coaches also receive a Team Jacket and usually have a season wrap up party.

If you are keen to contribute please contact Program Director, Eric de Nys at [email protected]
