WELCOME TO OUR T2T RACING PROGRAM FOR THE 25/26 SEASON!

All of our youth programs are designed around Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development principles and follow Cross Country Canada’s program guidelines.

The T2T program is for athletes in the U14  / U16 categories who are interested in developing their full range of skiing skills, off-season training and have the desire to compete at regional and provincial levels. A commitment to scheduled team training sessions in the fall / winter and additional, independent training at home and on the snow is expected. We currently offer a robust summer program which develops strength, includes time-appropriate rollerski skills, and aerobic development.

Levels of training for individual athletes will vary according to their individual goals and other sports commitments. Goal setting and review meetings with a program coach will be held seasonally to assess progress and adjust training as necessary.  Athletes will be guided through a robust seasonal training program with general guidance during the summer months to make sure off-season goals are met, including strength and aerobic capacity development, as well as maintenance of ski-specific skills.

Rollerskiing: Cross training (ie. other sports) takes the front seat in the summer, but that doesn’t mean no rollerski sessions! Rollerski sessions are offered on an advanced-notice basis in order to prepare for events such as the talent squad camp.

Club Hikes / Adventure days: Club hikes and adventure days will occur on specified Sundays from June through to the end of August. While this is a session which is included in the T2T planning, these club hikes are family-friendly and welcome to all!

  • Western Canadian Championships
  • + other local events and loopets

Expectations of Athletes:

This is a committed training program for athletes who want to work hard, improve technically, and develop their fitness over time. Some athletes in the program will be highly competition-focused, while others may be less race-driven but still bring a strong desire to learn, train consistently, and challenge themselves.

Athletes should have a desire to stay active year-round, including through multi-sport participation, and to take part in competitions that are appropriate to their goals and development. A commitment to scheduled team training sessions and to completing independent training is expected.

Training logs are introduced for older athletes and are used to monitor training response and provide appropriate training advice.

Athletes are expected to be proactive in informing coaches of upcoming events and activities that may conflict with scheduled training.

Note:

Athletes at the T2T level are often involved in other organized sports in the summer, fall, and occasionally winter. We encourage multi-sport involvement for enjoyment and to develop a full range of athletic abilities.

* An SLNC 26/27 season pass is required for participants in this program.

No formal programming:

  • Christmas Break

Volunteer Coaches

David Gill

Coaching Experience: Originally from Québec and a proud member of the Innu Nation, David comes from a background as a national team middle-distance runner before transitioning to cross-country skiing. He now brings that high-performance experience to coaching, focusing on technical precision and long-term athlete development, while helping young skiers build a lifelong love for the sport.

Favourite Trail: Alder Point Loop

Fun Fact: David moved from Québec to Vernon with his wife and kids… without ever visiting the place first. The plan was simple: move west, find snow, and hope the family liked it as much as he did. So far, so good.

Kevin O’Connor

Coach Experience: Coaching since 2011

Favorite run is probably Zoomas loop with white elephant extension or Carlylewylie with woodland bell.
